The hotel
Forty-one rooms and suites on the Corso, a coffee house on the ground floor and a path down to the water. Here is what Casino Hotel Velden offers, summarised from its own published information.
Rooms and suites
The hotel describes its rooms as bright and spacious, each furnished in an individual style, and most of them look towards the lake. There are four categories. Sizes are given where the hotel states them; where it does not, we have left the cell blank rather than guess.
| Category | What sets it apart | Size | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Double room | The standard category, with the same lakeside location and access to the beach as every other room. | — | Couples on a short stay who spend the day outdoors |
| Superior | Either a private in-room sauna, or a large bathtub with a television in the bathroom. | — | Shoulder-season breaks, when evenings are cool |
| Junior Suite | Room for up to four people. | 60 m² | Families or two friends travelling together |
| Suite | A private balcony overlooking the Wörthersee. | 80 m² | Longer stays and special occasions |
Ask the hotel which rooms face the lake directly before you book a specific date; "most rooms" is not "every room", and the view matters more here than anywhere else in the building.
Le Café and Die Yacht
Le Café is the hotel's own coffee house. Breakfast is served here as a buffet, and through the day it works as a classic Austrian café: pastries, ice cream, cocktails in the evening and a short list of Italian dishes.
Die Yacht is the restaurant across the road in the casino building. The hotel lists it with three toques (Hauben), the Austrian Gault Millau rating, which puts it among the more ambitious kitchens on the lake. Book a table separately from your room, especially on summer weekends.
The town centre has plenty of simpler options within five minutes on foot, from lakeside kiosks to pizzerias, so half-board is not essential here.
Private access to the lake
Guests have the use of the hotel's own stretch of shore, which saves a walk to the public lidos in high summer when they fill up early. The Wörthersee is known for its unusually warm water for an Alpine lake: in July and August surface temperatures in the mid-twenties Celsius are normal, and swimming is comfortable from roughly June to mid-September.
Bring a towel bag and sandals for the short walk from your room. Loungers on any private beach on the lake are limited, so the morning hours are the quiet ones. Outside the bathing season the shore is still a good place for coffee in the sun, and the light on the water in late September is the reason many regulars come back in autumn.
